Emigrant Gap (formerly, Wilsons Ranch)[4] is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California.
[2] The Wilsons Ranch post office opened in 1865, changed its name to Emigrant Gap in 1868.

Summers are warm and occasionally hot with cool nights, while winters are cold and snowy.
The Western Regional Climate Center had a weather station at an elevation of 5014 feet right next to Emigrant Gap at Lake Spaulding.
