Enrique Oltuski studied at the University of Miami, where he joined Phi Iota Alpha.
Oltuski was later hired to work for Shell Oil Co. designing service stations throughout Cuba.
It was there, in Las Villas that he met Che Guevara as the latter joined the Movement in October 1958.
Oltuski is a representative of what was known as "the plain” the less radical wing of the revolutionary movement, known for its commitment to the overthrowing Fulgencio Batista and establishment of a liberal democracy.
Oltuski would later be appointed vice president of the Central Planning Board, post he held for five years under the command of Ernesto Guevara.
