Erwin Jaenecke

Erwin Jaenecke (22 April 1890 – 3 July 1960), was a general in the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during World War II who commanded the 17th Army.

"[1]Jaenecke served on the Eastern Front as commander of the 389th Infantry Division and later the IV Army Corps.

In a 29 April 1944 meeting with Adolf Hitler in Berchtesgaden, Jaenecke insisted that Sevastopol should be evacuated.

Guderian proceeded slowly and eventually Jaenecke was quietly acquitted in June 1944.

On 15 June 1945 he was arrested by the Soviet authorities and sentenced to 25 years of hard labor for war crimes committed under his army command in 1942.
