Then Meyer played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 12 August 1978 as Basel were defeated 1–2 by Chiasso.
[1] Meyer scored his first goal for his club on 31 March 1979 in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium as Basel won 2–0 against Lausanne-Sport.
