Eudes de Sully

[11] Upon his death in 1208, de Sully was buried in an above-ground stone sarcophagus which was placed in the choir of Notre-Dame.

The location of the tomb was unusually prominent, directly in the middle of the first double bay of the choir, or about eight meters behind the current high altar.

The sarcophagus was covered with a copper slab which stood on four legs and featured a relief sculpture of the bishop and two angels by Étienne de Boisses.

De Sully, along with several others buried in Notre-Dame's choir, were reinterred on 6 June 1699 in a common grave in the apse.
