Eugen von Boeck (July 13, 1823 – January 31, 1886) was a German educator and scientist who lived in Chile, Peru and Bolivia sending and publishing the results of his research in Europe during the second half of the 19th century.
Orphan of both parents by the age of 8, his care was entrusted to his paternal uncle, the Priest Francis Salesius von Boeck, who saw about that he, his three brothers and sister received proper education.
Later, he moved to Arequipa, Peru with a contract for the "Harmsen" Commercial House and once concluded, took his family to live in the city of Tacna, where he took part in the foundation of the “German School”.
He carried out important deliveries of the results of his observations to scientific societies in Europe, which in turn published them, giving them the deserved value for the time and effort employed in their preparation.
The institutions in which he served, the university and municipal authorities, the noteworthy citizens, the German colony and the “five or six thousand children” he educated, rendered him a worthy posthumous homage before his grave.
