The township was named after the wife of one John Keating, a land agent who led the first people to settle in Potter County.

The racial makeup of the township was 97.77% White, 0.53% African American, 1.06% Asian, and 0.64% from two or more races.

In 2018, the Coudersport Area Municipal Authority (CAMA) became involved in a controversial proposal for a fracking wastewater plant.

The treated wastewater then would be transferred to CAMA for disposal into the headwaters of the Allegheny River.
