European City of the Trees (ECOT) is the title and award given by the European Arboricultural Council (EAC).
[1] The award is given annually to a town or city in recognition of efforts to care for trees in its urban area.
[2] Awards are determined by a jury of arboricultural experts.
[3] The criteria for determining a city's urban tree efforts are described as follows:[4] Additional criteria for the cooperation of nominees with the EAC as well as existing award holders are also described.
[4] The Netherlands is the only nation to have won the award more than once.
