European route E1 is a series of roads in Europe, part of the United Nations International E-road network, running from Larne, Northern Ireland to Seville, Spain.
The road also passes through Portugal – past the city of Porto, through the capital, Lisbon, and then south to the Algarve, passing Faro before reaching the Spanish border west of Huelva.40°26′40″N 8°30′59″W / 40.4444°N 8.5165°W / 40.4444; -8.5165 Larne (54°51′06″N 05°48′48″W / 54.85167°N 5.81333°W / 54.85167; -5.81333)(Start of concurrency with E18) Killean (54°07′30″N 6°20′19″W / 54.1251°N 6.3385°W / 54.1251; -6.3385) As with all E-roads in the United Kingdom, the E1 is not signed.
This section passes through the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve and is dual carriageway until Coynes Cross, north of Wicklow.
Following this, the remainder of the route in Ireland is single carriageway and passes through a number of villages.
The Atlantic Axis, which connects the Galician cities of Ferrol, A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, Pontevedra and Vigo, continuing south towards Tui.
