Fanjove Island

The island is governed by the Songosongo ward in Kilwa District of Lindi Region in Tanzania's Indian ocean coast.

[2] On January 12, 2000, 11 Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin that had become live-stranded on Fanjove Island were reported as having been refloated and released.

[3] Sea Sense, a conservation group, visited Fanjove Island in Kilwa District after learning that multiple green turtle nests had been established there in 2010.

Sea Sense offered hands-on training courses to improve knowledge of nest identification, translocation procedures, post-hatching excavations, and hatching Codes of Conduct in order to increase the survival rates of future nests.

Theoretical instruction in the biology and life history of sea turtles served as a support for this training.
