The Colony of Aden sent a team to the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games at Perth, Australia but did not win any medals.

The Aden Team captain was policeman Nasser Ahmed Salem, aged 29 and a father of seven.

Other team members were David Griffiths was a second lieutenant in the King's Own Scottish Borderers who ran the half-mile and mile, who two months before had led one of two platoons which battled ten thousand rioters in Aden.

Michael, Shaw married with two children, a corporal in the Royal Air Force who ran the sprints and the last leg of the relay.
