The town is in the northeastern part of the county and is northeast of Binghamton.

Port Crane has remained as a hamlet within the town of Fenton.

Interstate 88 crosses the southern part of the town, with access from Exits 2 and 3.

The town of Greene in Chenango County borders Fenton to the north.
