5th federal electoral district of Hidalgo

The 5th federal electoral district of Hidalgo (Distrito electoral federal 05 de Hidalgo) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of the seven currently operational districts in the state of Hidalgo.

[1] It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period by means of the first-past-the-post system.

As of 2024, votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fourth electoral region.

[2][3][a] Under the National Electoral Institute's 2022 districting plan, the district covers ten municipalities in the southwestern portion of Hidalgo, adjacent to the states of Mexico and Querétaro: Atitalaquia, Atotonilco de Tula, Chapantongo, Huichapan, Nopala de Villagrán, Tepeji del Río de Ocampo, Tepetitlán, Tezontepec de Aldama, Tlaxcoapan and Tula de Allende.

[5][6] Its head town (cabecera distrital), where results from individual polling stations are gathered together and tallied, is the El Llano neighbourhood of the city of Tula de Allende.
