Shutsy-Reynolds was born on March 4, 1923, to Anna and John Shutsy in Connellsville, Pennsylvania and was the youngest of four children.
[1] Shutsy-Reynolds knew she wanted to fly as early as grade school and her parents were supportive of her dreams.
[2] She graduated from Dunbar Township High School in 1940 and started learning to fly with the Civilian Pilot Training Program.
[2] When she volunteered for the Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) in 1943, she was assigned the job of engineer and worked on test and ferry flights.
[5] After the WASP were disbanded in 1944, Shutsy-Reynolds took a bus and hitchhiked her way home where she went to work in her father's repair shop.
[2] They lived in the Panama Canal Zone for the next 16 years, where she signed up with the USAF Reserves, Caribbean Air Command.
[7] Shusty-Reynolds started a social media campaign to help WASP veterans like Harmon place their ashes in the cemetery.
