Forsan, Texas

Forsan is a city in Howard County, Texas, United States.

[4] It is situated along FM 461 in southeastern Howard County, about 14 miles (23 km) southeast of Big Spring.

[5] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.29 square miles (0.75 km2), all land.

[6] Forsan's development as a community dates back to the 1920s, when oil was discovered in the area.

The name was derived from the fact that four paying oil sands were believed to be present in the area.

The Great Depression's impact on Forsan was less significant than in other rural Texas towns.

On March 25, 1961, the first mayor and city council were elected following an earlier decision to incorporate the community.

Forsan's population began to decline and by 1980, 239 people lived in the city.
