Fort Nash

Fort Nash,[1] also known as Purdie's Garrison and Cantonment on the Tennessee Ridge, was established around 1793 in the Fudgearound area.

[2] The fort was built as a military garrison to protect settlers and travelers and served as a stopping place and administrative center until it was abandoned in about 1804.

[3] During the survey of the Nashville to Georgia Road in 1806/7, John Drake's survey party visited the site.

The Tennessee State Library and Archives have the map of the survey and Drake's accompanying letter, which depicts a four-sided stockade with blockhouses at each corner.
