Fountain City, Indiana

Fountain City, formerly Newport, is a town in New Garden Township, Wayne County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.

Fountain City was originally called New Garden, and under the latter name was laid out in 1818.

[4][5][6] New Garden became Newport in 1834, which was renamed Fountain City in 1878,[6] named for its natural springs.

[9] According to the 2010 census, Fountain City has a total area of 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.1% Asian, and 1.8% from two or more races.
