Established in 1987, the organisers describe it as "Northern Ireland's longest running film festival".

[2] The 1995 event included the first public showing of Danny Boyle's Trainspotting.

[3] The 21st festival, which took place in November 2008, included the Northern Ireland premieres of Brideshead Revisited and Hounddog.

[4] The 30th anniversary festival, held in 2017, involved a "10-day programme [..of..] more than 100 screenings in Londonderry's Guildhall, Nerve Centre and Brunswick Moviebowl".
