Commodore Frederick Dean (1900–1983) was a South African military commander.
During World War I, he served with the Mercantile Marine,[clarification needed] attached to the Royal Navy.
In 1940, he became Officer Commanding of HMSAS Southern Barrier,[2] sweeping the Agulhas Bank, which earned him an OBE.
