Frederick Du Vernet

Frederick Herbert Du Vernet (20 January 1860 – 22 October 1924)[1]: 12 [2] was the second Bishop of Caledonia and inaugural Metropolitan of British Columbia (taking the title Archbishop of Caledonia whilst Metropolitan).

From then until 1904, he was Rector of St. John Anglican Church, West Toronto, when he was appointed to the episcopate.

He was consecrated Bishop on 30 November that year at the Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal.

[1]: 19  During his time in Caledonia, he lived and worked among the First Nations in the region, particularly the Nisga'a and the Haida.

He often heard and addressed their concerns, and criticized colonial institutions like residential schools.
