He was on the United States station, where he convoyed vessels from Sandy Hook to Cape Henlopen and into the Atlantic.

A few days earlier Perdrix had encountered an American vessel leeward of St Thomas, which had reported being boarded by a French privateer seven leagues east of Virgin Gorda.

L'Armee d' Italie was 11 days out of Guadeloupe and had captured the brig Bittern and the schooner Concorde, out of Martinique.
