Gavin P. Williams (born in Pretoria in 1943) is an Africanist, sociologist, and political economist.
Since 2010, he has been an Emeritus Fellow of St Peter's College, Oxford, where he previously taught politics and sociology from 1975 until 2010.
[1][2][3][4] After graduating from the University of Stellenbosch with a BA degree, Williams wrote his B. Phil.
thesis with a Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford, on the political sociology of Western Nigeria.
[6] He was one of the founding editors of the Review of African Political Economy in the early 1970s,[1] which published a special issue honouring Williams in 2012.
