As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 7,284 people, 2,431 households, and 2,095 families living in the town.

10.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 2.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

Ten Chimneys, the home of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, is located in Genesee.
