[1] His father was German banker Adolph Salomonsohn and his mother was Sara Rinkel.
In April 1900, he converted from Judaism to Christianity and changed his family name from Salomonsohn to Solmssen.
Solmssen worked from 1900 for German bank Disconto-Gesellschaft in Berlin.
[2] He was a member of the supervisory board of German company Lufthansa AG and German company Vereinigte Stahlwerke.
When the Nazis came to power, Solmssen left Germany and emigrated to Switzerland.
