George E. Williams (New York politician)

George E. Williams (28 February 1828 – 31 October 1914)[1] was an American newspaper publisher and politician from New York.

He attended the public schools, and for six months the Clinton Liberal Institute.

From 1865 to 1867, Williams traveled about Louisiana and Alabama, to get a picture of the South after the American Civil War.

After his return he established the Fulton Times, an independent newspaper[2] which he published until 1881.

[3] Williams joined the Greenback Party in 1878, and in November of that year was elected to the New York State Assembly.
