Gilbert R. Horton

Gilbert R. Horton FAIA (1888–1985) was an American architect in practice in Jamestown, North Dakota, from 1913 until 1980.

While attending the public schools, Horton worked with local contractor Jeff Schelde to learn drafting.

In the winter of 1912–13 Schelde chose to move on to Sioux Falls, but Horton remained, opening a Jamestown office in early 1913.

[3] Early in his career, Horton took on several business partners, including J. Howard Ganley in 1921 and Eugene H. McFarland in 1926–27.

[5] In 1968 he was elected a Fellow of the institute, the organization's highest membership honor, for his innovative use of materials.

The former Mandan High School , designed by Horton and McFarland and built in two phases, completed in 1917 and 1924.
