It serves the eastern suburb of Hawthorn, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

It opened in 3 April 1882, with the current station provided in 1963.

Much of the station's current traffic serves the nearby Hawthorn campus of the Swinburne University of Technology.

[6] Glenferrie station opened on 3 April 1882, when the railway line from Hawthorn was extended to Camberwell.
