Good Words for the Young was a 19th-century six penny monthly periodical[1] established in Scotland in 1869 by the Scottish publisher Alexander Strahan[2] that was specifically for children.

[4] [5] Many of the stories published in Good Words were written by established authors that were serialised in magazine form.

[6] One such author was Scottish George Macdonald for example, whose workAt the back of the north wind was serialised from November 1868 to October 1969 and was illustrated by Arthur Hughes.
