The village incorporated as an autonomous city from portions of the township in 1850.
[1] As of the 2020 United States census,[6] the township had a population of 18,905 people.
19.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
Mostly along the M-44 corridor stretching from just north of the intersection of lake drive and M-44 on the south end and M-44 and 4 mile.
New Developments include The Grove by watermark at M-44 and 4 mile, Evergreen Townhomes adjacent to the Evergreen office complex, and the springs at knapp crossing just north of knapps corner.
New neighborhoods include Arbor hills at the corner of 3 mile and Maguire avenue.
