[2] Between 1997 and 2003 Raimondi served on the Supreme Court of Cassation, first in the Advocate General's office and then as judge.
During the same period he occasionally served as ad hoc judge in cases before the European Court of Human Rights.
In May 2003 he joined the International Labour Organization (ILO) as Deputy Legal Adviser in Geneva.
[4] In September 2012 he was elected section president and then vice-president of the court for a three-year term of office starting on 1 November 2012.
In January 2016, in the wake of the European migrant crisis, Raimondi announced that the court had put in place an “action plan” to cope with a forecast surge in legal cases from migrants seeking to avoid being sent to other European countries.
