Gustaf Johansson (bishop)

Gustaf Johansson (10 January 1844 – 24 July 1930) was the Archbishop of Turku, and the spiritual head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland between 1899 and 1930.

He served as a Professor of Dogmatics and Ethics at the University of Helsinki between 1877 and 1885.

As a professor, Johansson developed terminology in his field by creating Finnish-language responses to many theological words.

As a bishop, he led Bible Translation Committee between 1886 and 1912 and participated in the Finnish and Swedish-language hymnal reform.
