Hairol replaced Zamri Morshidi as Sarawak captain for the 2012 season.
In September 2016 Hairol was suspended for 6 months and fined RM 2,000 by the Football Association of Malaysia for attacking a referee during a match against Kedah in the Malaysian Cup.
[2] In September 2013, Hairol received his first national called up for international 'A' match against China.
He made his international debut in the 88th minute of the match replacing Amri Yahyah.
