Hamilton (postcode 5373) is a small township in the Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia.
He drew up a plan for a town he called Hamilton, named the streets for his children, built a hotel in 1850 (destroyed by fire in about 1875) and donated land for a church.
In 1863, George’s eldest son David married Margaret Stribling, whose family owned the Wheatsheaf Inn at Allendale North near Kapunda, and later became the licensee.
George and his first wife Margaret Finn (died 1860) are both buried at St Matthew’s Church, Hamilton.
[7] The Dutton Memorial Church of St Matthew was built in 1896 (replacing a more modest building of 1857) and financed by one man, Henry Dutton (1844–1914) of nearby Anlaby Station as a memorial to his brother Frederick, and to Henry's wife Helen and their daughter Ethel, who died accidentally on Granite Island.
[8] Henry Dutton was occasional lay reader and, an accomplished musician, played the organ, a magnificent instrument for such a small town.
