Hampden is a census-designated place (CDP) consisting of the eastern portion of the town of Hampden in Penobscot County, Maine, United States.
[2] As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 4,126 people, 1,632 households, and 1,152 families residing in the CDP.
There were 1,704 housing units at an average density of 153.9 per square mile (59.4/km2).
The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.87% White, 0.44% Black or African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races.
23.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
