Hans Jakob Vontobel (December 4, 1916 - January 3, 2016) was a Swiss private banker and philanthropist.
[4][5][6] Vontobel was born December 4, 1916, in Zürich, Switzerland, to Jakob (1885-1976)[7] and his wife Emma (née Höhn; 1887–1978).
After completing his Matura, he studied Jurisprudence at the University of Zürich, followed by a trainee program at Pictet & Cie in Geneva.
[9][10] In 1943, he entered the small private bank of his father, then J. Vontobel & Cie., which employed 12 people.
Between 1961 and 1971, he was also engaged as a member of the management of the Zürich Stock Exchange and from 1972 to 1986 he was president of Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
