Clark received the country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania on 2 July 1863.
On 2 July 1863 he performed an act of bravery during the Battle of Gettysburg that earned him the Medal of Honor award.
Despite being shot in the leg, he kept on fighting, an act which led to his field promotion to 2nd Lieutenant.
[4] Clark married Harriet Emeline Johnson, with whom he had three children.
He died on 18 April 1913 and his remains are interred at the Albany Rural Cemetery in New York.
