Heil Sound Communications, Inc is an American manufacturer of professional audio equipment based in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
[2][4] Starting in 1966 Bob Heil came back to his hometown of Marissa, Illinois and opened Ye Olde Music Shop, one of the country's first pro audio stores[5] where he also sold Hammond organs.
[3] Heil Sound entered the amateur radio market, ostensibly working to fix what he perceived as problems in the industry involving poorly transmitted and received audio.
By 1982 Heil Sound had curtailed the touring side of the business and concentrated on developing products for the amateur radio market.
The PR35 and new PR37 vocal mics have become “go to” microphones for many high profile artists and the PR30 and PR40 are popular in – in addition to concert sound – broadcast and studio use.
Sarah Heil has retired, but Bob continues to do outreach work and product design within the amateur radio space under the title Founder and CEO Emeritus.
Levitt took a different career path in academia for a number of years, but continued to regularly consult with Heil Sound during that time.
