[3] Hopea griffithii grows as a canopy tree, up to 40 metres (130 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 60 cm (24 in).
It has flying (detached) buttresses and stilt roots up to 1 m (3 ft) tall.
The leathery leaves are lanceolate to ovate and measure up to 9 cm (4 in) long.
The inflorescences measure up to 2.5 cm (1 in) long and bear up to five dark red flowers.
