Hopen Municipality

Hopen is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.

During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee.

The name comes from the word hópr which means "a small mostly enclosed bay", likely referring to a bay between two the main island of Smøla and the small island of Hopaøya.

The mayor was indirectly elected by a vote of the municipal council.

[6] The municipal council (Heradsstyre) of Hopen was made up of 17 representatives that were elected to four year terms.
