Howard Klein (music critic)

Howard Kenneth Klein (June 15, 1931 – March 1, 2021) was an American music critic and pianist who was the Director of Arts at the Rockefeller Foundation.

He began his career as a music teacher and pianist for dancer José Limón.

He left The Times in 1967 to become the Assistant Director of the Rockefeller Foundation, although he continued to contribute articles to the newspaper periodically on a freelance basis into the early 1970s.

Klein played an instrumental role in the Rockefeller donation that established the TV Lab at Thirteen/WNET in 1971.

In 1983 he became Deputy Director for Arts and Humanities for the foundation, a position he remained in until he left the organization in 1986.
