The institute was set up by the Government of India Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of West Bengal and industry partners (Coal India and Rolta) using the not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) model, at a ratio of 50:35:15 respectively between three parties.
[7] The mentorship was passed on to IIT Kharagpur in 2017 and the institute has since been operating from a transit campus at Webel IT Park.
On 30 June 2015 Hon'ble Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) campus in Kalyani.
[2] The academic structure of IIIT Kalyani exhibits the diversity, comprehensiveness and depth befitting an institution of its age and stature.
The programs/courses offered at the Institute have the flexibility to evolve and change in response to new requirements and serve the dual purpose of building a solid foundation of knowledge while enhancing confidence, creativity and innovation among the students.
