Ian Smith (rugby union, born 1941)

Ian Stanley Talbot Smith (20 August 1941 – 29 September 2017) was an international New Zealand rugby union player who had several seasons in All Blacks test sides during the 1960s.

[1] In the 1963 trial Smith was switched to the wing and he ended up scoring two tries to beat Don McKay who had played against England earlier in the season.

Smith was the left wing understudy of Ralph Caulton and did not appear in any of the five internationals.

In 1965 whilst playing for North Otago the Springboks were touring in New Zealand and Smith was chosen to captain the combined North Otago, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury team against Springboks, when he played three tests.

In 1967 he attended the trials for the Britain and France tour but in his second match his team was thrashed 37–0 and like many of his teammates, he was overlooked in the final selection.
