Igis (Romansh: Eigias) is a former municipality in the district of Landquart in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
Far better known than its proper name Igis is its hamlet Landquart, because of its Rail Station and motorway exit.
Of the rest of the land, 20.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (4.9%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
It is a transportation hub for the Rheintal-Prättigau region and is the third largest municipality (by population) in Graubünden.
[3] From the 2000 census[update], 2,735 or 37.8% are Roman Catholic, while 3,046 or 42.1% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.
[5] The historical population is given in the following table:[2] The leadership of the municipality is elected every four years and consists of a president and six members.
[3] Marschlins Castle and the surrounding grounds are listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
