The Iokanga (Russian: Иоканьга) is a river in the north of the Kola Peninsula in Murmansk Oblast, Russia.
[1] The Iokanga originates in Lake Alozero and flows into the Barents Sea.
However, in the 1930s the largest Ter Sami village, Yokanga, was declared "perspectiveless" by the Soviet authorities and its inhabitants were forced to move to the Gremikha military base.
With its strong current, huge boulders, and numerous pools, the Iokanga is picturesque as well as challenging.
