He studied at the National University of Singapore, where he obtained his bacherlor's degree in architecture in 1988.
He later studied at the National University of Malaysia, where he obtained a Master of Philosophy in Malay Letters in 2008.
In the same year, he won the Merit Award at the Anugerah Persuratan, which was organised by the Malay Language Council.
In 2001, his essay Milik Siapa Bumi Yang Satu Ini won the Hadiah Sastera.
He is a member of the spiritual music trio Sirrfillsirr, which released its first album, Cinta Arafah, in 2005.
He also served on the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee of the Ministry of Education.
The play was adapted from The Conference of the Birds, a poem by Sufi poet Attar of Nishapur.
