Ivan the Fool (Иванушка-дурачок in Cyrillic; Ivanuška-duračok in transliteration), composed in 1913 by César Cui, is an opera-fairytale made for children in three tableaux.
(The printed Russian score of 1913 adds a parallel title in French, Jeannot "le bêtà".)
When his parents and brothers find him and reprimand him for his foolish slackness, they tell him that he cannot eat dinner with them.
The man who manages to get her kerchief and bring it to the feast will win her hand in marriage.
She notices that Ivan is hiding behind a stove, and that he has the kerchief, whereupon the Tsar welcomes his new son-in-law.
