James Henry Tate (March 5, 1830 – April 18, 1918)[1] was an American merchant, farmer, and Republican politician.
He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate (1876 & 1877) and Assembly (1873), representing Vernon County.
Born in Landgrove, Vermont, where he was raised on his family's farm, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1847 where he was a clerk.
During the American Civil War, he enlisted in the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry and was a commissary sergeant.
