J. Peter Neary (11 February 1950[2] – 16 June 2021[3][4]) was an economist specialising in international trade.
He was previously professor of political economy at University College Dublin, from 1980 to 2006.
Neary was born in Drogheda, Ireland,[1] and educated at University College Dublin and Oxford, where he completed his D.Phil.
He was an editor of the European Economic Review (1986–1990) and served on a number of other editorial boards.
[6] Neary, together with W. Max Corden, in 1982 developed the classic economic model describing Dutch disease.
