J. Vaughan Gary

Julian Vaughan Gary (February 25, 1892 – September 6, 1973) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia.

Gary also served as a member of the board of trustees of the University of Richmond.

He was reelected to the nine succeeding Congresses and served from March 6, 1945, to January 3, 1965, during which time he was a signatory to the 1956 Southern Manifesto that opposed the desegregation of public schools ordered by the Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education.

He was not a candidate for renomination in 1964 to the Eighty-ninth Congress, and he subsequently resumed this private law practice in Richmond.

Upon his retirement, Gary continued to reside in Richmond, where he died September 6, 1973.
