Jacquelien Maria Aleida Scherpen is a Dutch applied mathematician specializing in nonlinear control theory.
Scherpen studied applied mathematics at the University of Twente, earning a master's degree in 1990 and completing her Ph.D. in 1994.
[2][3] Her doctoral dissertation, Balancing for Nonlinear Systems, was jointly promoted by Huibert Kwakernaak and Arjan van der Schaft.
[5] Scherpen was named an IEEE Fellow in 2021 "for contributions to nonlinear model reduction and passivity-based control".
[7] In 2022, she was elected Chair of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Activity Group on Control and Systems Theory (SIAM SIAG/CST).
